The Daily Draw

I'm drawing. Daily. On my iPad. That's about all there is to it.

Permalink The White House is calling for the public to not just say what they DON’T want in a bill to combat online piracy, but to tell them what they DO want. Online piracy IS a problem we need a solution. Tell your congressmen and congresswomen what you want the government to do to protect freedom of the Internet.

Permalink I’m reading The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern, and it makes me want to draw a thousand circus-related drawings. That book is awesome, by the way. It’s kind of a cross between every Tim Burton movie ever and Harry Potter. This drawing is obviously a work in progress. I’ll hopefully have a finished product tomorrow.
Permalink I’ve stumbled across the Flickr blog, which is awesome and which is where I’ve found some of the recent photographs I’ve used. Everyone should check it out. They do theme posts, such as blue and orange photographs (the most recent one), or of puppies, or geometric patterns. It’s pretty cool. And they don’t overwhelm you with a million and one photographs; they pick just a select few. I’ve found their selections to be very inspirational (obviously).

Permalink Feels like beach weather out today! It’s unbelievably warm out for January in New England. I feel (almost) like I should be sitting in the sun on a beach somewhere reading a book. I’m not complaining, though. I’d take this over 5 foot drifts of snow any day.

Permalink Another scanned sketch finished in Brushes. The puppy was only 20 days old when the original photo was taken. So tiny!

Permalink Living in New England, as I do, this is what it will look like very soon, and I’m dreading it. As beautiful as it is, I’m terrified of a repeat of last winter. I hope drawing this won’t turn out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Drawn in ArtRage.

Permalink Time for a guest drawing! This amazing piece of work was done by my husband, Nick, to use on his blog, Smplfi. I think this really showcases what you can do with the art apps on the iPad. Pretty awesome stuff right here. And not only can you enjoy his art, you can enjoy a glimpse into our great room in our house through this drawing :)
Permalink I drew a sketch of this cardinal a while back and just found it again in my sketchbook. I scanned it in to play around with it and see what I could make of it. I originally just had a simple outline, then the ever-creative Nick suggested I make it into a sort of stained glass piece, so that’s what I did. All Brushes for this one.
Permalink Today I want to share a digital artist’s work that inspires me. This guy, Ron Letkeman, is an illustrator who has a Flickr photo stream of work he’s done on the iPad, mostly with Inkpad. His work is really what made me want to start this blog. He hasn’t added much to his Flickr recently, but I still like to go back to it once in a while to get inspiration. His use of light and layering is really amazing. It’s hard to believe it’s all done on the iPad!
Permalink Line art done in ArtRage. Somehow I managed to make the colors of the lines match the photo (which I actually traced this time), but I don’t know how I did it. The photo is really cool so you should check it out. I found it on Google and it turned out to be part of a collection called 16 Cool Alleyway Photos. This alley was definitely the coolest; I love the lighting in the photo.

Permalink Tried out a different style for this drawing which is based on a photo from the National Library of Ireland taken on December 22, 1962. Simple photo but a lot of history (and I like history). Drawing done in Brushes on my iPad.

Permalink Testing out the ArtRage iPhone app. Works pretty well so far. It has a lot fewer options for tools, of course, but it’s nice for a quick sketching app.

Permalink This one I ended making more of my own. I loved the original picture but there’s no way I could replicate it as it was. In the end, I made a basically flat, 2D drawing in Brushes, but I like how it turned out. The style fits the subject, I think.
